The Vienna IntraOcular Lens Study Group was founded in 1996 to gather scientific research on cataract surgery. We are located at the Department of Ophthalmology and Optometry of the Medical University Vienna – the first University Eye Clinic in the world, founded in 1812.
Our goal is to continuously develop and improve surgical methods as well as devices and intraocular lenses for the treatment of cataract by clinical trials.
Our focus lies on the optimization of quality, safety, rehabilitation and comfort of cataract surgery for the patient.
We can rely on our outstanding long-term expertise and state-of-the-art scientific research as well as on a broad national and international network of clinical and research cooperation partners, thus guaranteeing that the latest technologies are constantly being implemented and evaluated. National and international funding is currently being acquired to carry out our numerous clinical trials – in collaboration with the industry and also independently in academic study projects.
Our strength consists in performing evidence-based clinical trials and using high-technology equipment in one of Europe’s leading eye clinics. We offer outstanding expertise and highly trained research staff to conduct Phase II, III and IV pharmaceutical and medical device trials on adult as well as pediatric populations.
